Game On!

I just earned a neat little badge for my work with www.3dgamelab.com in my "quest" to develop a new way for students to learn AP Biology.

I am very excited to see where this will take me as my next steps are to create a "development team" comprised of colleagues and students. My goal is to have Detritus 449: AP Biology - The Game ready to play by the Fall. It will be a ton of work, but I feel this coupled with Project/Challenged Based Learning activities in the classroom will help my students in the long run with regard to the inquiry-based curriculum of AP Biology.

I Know What You Are Thinking...

What kind of name is this for an educator blog...well to be honest, I am a Biology teacher...as a matter of fact the name of this blog is something my students will tell you I say all the time during class...

For those who don't know what "Detritus" is...it's dead decaying matter...I believe Life is about the journey and not the destination.

I thought the Movie Avatar said it best and I am paraphrasing here - "we borrow energy from the Earth, and one-day we will have to give it back"

Life begins and one-day it will end...it is what we do with the time in between those two events that we are given that determines the quality of our lives. I try to live this everyday. Life is too short not to enjoy what we have. I am sure I have exhausted a long line of cliches here.

Biology to me is not just some subject we learn but a discovery of what Life has to offer. Not a second goes by that we are not impacted by some form of Biology.

I have no idea where this blog adventure will take me but I am excited to see where it goes. I hope to connect with others who are not only interested in education, science, or technology but also healthy lifestyles and inspirational moments in life.
